Gunmen on Saturday August 3 shot and killed the President-General and six village heads of Umucheke Okwe Autonomous Community in the Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo state.
Our source informed that the President General Hyginus Ohazuruike.and the six village heads were shot dead during a meeting in the community
Our source who is an indigene of the community disclosed that the gunmen stormed the venue of the meeting in a vehicle while the meeting was in full swing
According to the source who spoke off camera; "Some gunmen have just shot dead the president General of Umucheke Okwe autonomous community and six village heads.
T"he President General and the village heads were having a meeting at the PG’s shop located at the community’s market when the attackers arrived.
“On arrival, the gunmen opened fire, killed all the community leaders and set the place ablaze. All the community chiefs died in the attack.”
Our correspondent gathered that the reason for the murder is yet to be established.
Our source added; ”Nobody knew the agendum of the meeting. They were having a meeting at the PG”s shop when the gunmen arrived. They opened fire, killed all the village chiefs in attendance, burnt the place before driving off.”
The source said that the community has become a ghost enclave as the villagers have all fled their homes.
When contacted, the Sole Administrator of the local government' area, Emeka Obi, confirmed the massacre.
Obii aid he was addressing his constituents with a view finding ways of managing the development.
He condemned the killings and urged everybody to remain calm.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Henry Okoye, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the incidents before press time.
Recall that gunmen killed a ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress and seven others in the same community.
Also, four policeman and a Point of Sale Operator were killed in cold blood on Monday, July 29 at Irette Community section of the Owerri-Onitsha expressway in Owerri West Local Government Area of the state
Gunmen also on Monday killed one person and set a vehicle ablaze at Umuelemai in Isiala Mbano LGA of the State.
On Tuesday, some hirelings killed a businessman, Okey Nze, popularly known as Wealthy Empire, at Amawire in the Orji Community in the Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
They also shot dead same Tuesday a policeman identified as OC Ireozor and a community chief, Paulinus Mbakwe at Nworieubi Community in the Mbaitoli LGA of the state.
