Two days after sacking him, President Bola Tinubu has reiterated Professor Nenibarini Zabbey as the Project Coordinator for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, who confirmed this in a statement on Monday, said that Zabbey has been reinstated as HYPREP coordinator.
“President Bola Tinubu has approved the reinstatement of Professor Nenibarini Zabbey as the Project Coordinator of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).
"The President reached the decision following a performance review of the HYPREP Project Coordinator and concluded that the Project Coordinator is fit to discharge his functions in accordance with the regulations guiding the execution of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).
"By the directive of the President, the reinstatement of the HYPREP Project Coordinator takes immediate effect", the statement said.
Recall that on July 13 Tinubu had named Olufemi Adekanmbi, a one-time Commissioner for Special Duties in Ondo State as Zabbey's replacement.
The development had sparked outrage, especially from the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) who had threatened to seal the HYPREP office in Port Harcourt if he was not reinstated.
The apex Ogoni group had described the appointment of a non-Ogoni person as an affront, wondering why the president did not choose from the pool of competent Ogonis to lead the project if he wanted Zabbey replaced.
