Hardship Protesters Insist on Protesting on October 1st

The End Bad Governance Movement in Rivers State says it will proceed with its October 1, 2024 proposed peaceful protest.

The group, under the Take It Back Movement, made this known in a joint briefing with journalists in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

The group during the briefing delivered by its Rivers State Coordinator, Amanyie King demands a reduction in the pump price of petrol as well as a reduction in school fees of all tertiary institutions across the country.

The Take It Back Coordinator in Rivers State, Amanyie King, further assured that the protest would be conducted peacefully.

They also warned miscreants and political thugs against disrupting the proposed End Bad Governance protest.

He said that any attempt by any hoodlum to counter the protest would be resisted through legal means.

“We want the pump price of petrol to be reduced to N400 per liter. We are calling for a substantial reduction in school fees across all levels of education. We are calling for a peaceful protest in October and we want to warn the Rivers State Government that any attempt to deploy thugs or miscreants or agents of provocation will be resisted with every legal and civil means’’ he said.

On his part, the Publicity Secretary of the Take It Back Movement in Rivers State, Andy Akpotive maintained that the proposed peaceful protest is aimed at bringing leaders in the country to accountability.

“We in the Take it Back Movement in Rivers State Chapter are insisting that October 1, 2024, provides the opportunity, provides us the window, the latitude to come out again and say that we will refuse to be cowed, we will refuse to be slaves, we will refuse to be kept under in our country where we share equal right even with the leadership,” he said.

In the meantime, the Rivers State Chapter of the Niger Delta Congress NDC has urged the Rivers State government and security agencies to be professional during the proposed October 1, peaceful protest.

The secretary of Niger Delta Congress, Timothy Akilor made the call in a joint press briefing in Port Harcourt.

He also urged Rivers people to come out en masse and join the protest.

He promised that the protest would be conducted peacefully.
