Imo CP Orders Probe Into Alleged Detention Of Movie Crew

The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma has ordered investigation into the allegation of arrest and detention of a movie crew by the Anti-Narcotics and Drugs Unit of the state police command.

The command's spokesman ASP Henry Okoye disclosed this on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in a statement.

ASP Okoye further disclosed that the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the IGP X-Squad will head the investigation team.

According to ASP Okoye, the investigation is aimed at ascertaining the facts and ensuring that justice is served.

He assured the public that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with the Force's regulations, and the supervising officer will also be sanctioned.

The police spokesman urged the complainant and his film production crew to report at the IGP X-Squad, Owerri to assist in the investigation process

Young C Entertainment had accused the personnel of the Police Unit of arrest and detention of three members of the outfit who were in Owerri Imo State to shoot a film.

According to the outfit, officers of the police unit, accosted, searched and arrested the three crew members for allegedly being in possession of fake dollar notes

The company said the crew was arrested at Yar'Adua Drive, Owerri on October 11 and later taken to State Criminal Investigation Department Cell 12 where they were locked up for refusing to grease the palms of the officers with N1.5million.

The company admitted the dollar notes were not original but 'prop' notes which they were authorized to use in films.

In a viral video on X, the leader of the crew said all explanations he gave and his request that two of the crew members be allowed to go while he as the leader be detained fell on the officers who chose to turn dead ears to him.

He said they were denied the right to contact their families and lawyers to inform them of their arrest and detention.

According to the company, one of the crew members who was asthmatic nearly gave up the ghost at Cell 12 where they were crammed in alongside several suspected criminals.

The company revealed that the asthmatic crew member almost choked to death when a coil to chase away battalion of mosquitos that invaded the cell at night was lit.

The company said when one of the crew members complained bitterly about the inhuman condition, a policeman boldly told him off saying the police know what to do if the asthmatic crew member gave up the ghost.
