The Imo State Government under Senator Hope Uzodimma 's watch is partnering the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC to reconstruct the dilapidated Avu-Ohaji-Adapalm Road.
The State Commissioner for Works, Barrister Ralphael Nwosu disclosed this on Friday, October 11, 2024 at an interactive session with newsmen at the ministry 's conference room at the State Secretariat along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, the state capital.
Barr Nwosu who revealed that construction work on the road would commence next week assured the people of the area that government was concerned about their plight and is poised to ameliorate their sufferings..
The Commissioner who canvassed partnership with the newly sworn-in local government council administrators in the state said the councils could undertake doing the earthwork and drainages on roads in their localities while the state government asphalts such roads in their council areas to ease transportation and communication.
He listed construction work presently being undertaken by the state government to include the reconstruction of the Owerri -Mbaise-Umuahia Expressway, Mgbee-Akokwa-Uga Road, and Okporo-Government House Annex Road in Orlu Zone.
Others are Assumpta Roundabout Flyover which is at the launching of beams stage and the Ihiagwa Bridge which when completed would ease transportation along the Nekede -Ihiagwa-FUTO-Obinze Road
He expressed satisfaction at the level of work being done Craneburg Construction Company on the Owerri -Mbaise Road, emphasizing that construction of the road would soon be over.
The Commissioner further disclosed that having constructed Toronto-FRSC Road in Owerri, the state government would soon embark on the construction of the FRSC-Naze section of the Toronto -FRSC-Naze Road.
According to him, construction work would also commence on the Alaba Market Road as soon as the rains are over.
Barr Nwosu who said money to undertake the construction work is available assured residents of Okigwe town that the state government would not neglect roads in the area.
"We are not neglecting roads in Okigwe town. Just as we are constructing roads in Owerri and Orlu, we will also tackle roads in Okigwe", Nwosu said.
Observers have continued to hail the road construction efforts of the Uzodimma administration.
The administration has constructed the Owerri -Orlu and Owerri -Okigwe expressways as well as the Owerri -MCC-Uratta Road.
It recently undertook the filling of potholes on roads in the Owerri Metropolis.
