Iran earlier on Wednesday said it would respond to any further provocation from Israel, adding that its missile attack on Israel and its biggest military assault on the country, is over at the moment.
Iran launched almost 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel on Tuesday night and it was later reported that the Israeli military mentioned that most of the missiles were intercepted, but that a small number struck central and southern Israel.
Iran has also stated that Tuesday’s missile launch at Israel is its response for the recent assassinations of the leaders of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The Iranian mission to the United Nations in a message on its X account said, “Iran’s legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime, which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been duly carried out".
“Should the Zionist regime dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a subsequent and crushing response will ensue. Regional states and the Zionists’ supporters are advised to part ways with the regime".
Citing Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel and the US promised to retaliate against Tehran's escalation as fears of a wider war intensified.
Israeli officials cited that, Isreal will launch a "significant retaliation" within days that could target oil production facilities inside Iran and other strategic sites, on Wednesday.
Despite calls for a ceasefire from the United Nations, the United States and the European Union, fighting between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah continued on Wednesday.
Israel renewed its bombardment of Beirut's southern suburbs, a stronghold of the Iran-backed group, with at least a dozen airstrikes against what it said were targets belonging to the group.
Large plumes of smoke were seen rising from parts of the suburbs. Israel issued new evacuation orders for the area, which has largely emptied after days of heavy strikes.
Hezbollah said it confronted Israeli forces infiltrating the Lebanese town of Adaisseh early on Wednesday and forced them to retreat.
Recall that this happens to be the second Iran attack on Israel this year, after it launched upto 300 missiles and drones in April 2024.
