ITF Congratulates Nigeria On Global Compliance Milestone

The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) has lauded Nigeria for achieving a significant milestone with a global compliance score of 75.5 percent under the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Cape Town Convention. This accomplishment underscores the country's growing dedication to upholding international aviation standards.

In a statement released on Sunday, by Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, shared the details of the ITF’s commendation. According to Moshood, the congratulations were conveyed in an official message addressed to Keyamo at the closing session of the 46th ITF Congress. The statement read, “We congratulate Nigeria for attaining a 75.5 percent compliance score under the International Civil Aviation Organization-ICAO Convention.”

The ITF’s message added, “We thank the Nigerian government and Honorable Minister Festus Keyamo for his unwavering commitment to driving this progress. We were honored by his presence at the 46th ITF Congress and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing aviation standards globally.”

The ITF Congress, which serves as a vital platform for transport workers and industry stakeholders from around the world, addresses key challenges and trends impacting the global transport industry. Nigeria’s recognition for its compliance score comes at a time when the country is actively pursuing reforms in its aviation sector, making its mark as a leading nation in the African aviation space.

Under the leadership of Keyamo, Nigeria's Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has introduced various initiatives aimed at improving safety, boosting efficiency, and attracting international investments to its aviation industry. The high compliance score under the Cape Town Convention demonstrates that these efforts are yielding positive results, helping Nigeria enhance its international reputation.

With the growing focus on sustainable development and the need for robust infrastructure to support the aviation sector in Africa, Nigeria’s compliance with international conventions like the ICAO Cape Town Convention reflects its strategic vision to become a key player in regional and global aviation. The ITF's recognition further solidifies the country’s standing and highlights its potential to lead in this critical sector, fostering economic growth and enhancing job opportunities.
