The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has exposed fraudulent part-time programmes in Nigerian institutions of higher learning.
In a statement released to the press, JAMB declared that any part-time programme run daily is fraudulent and void. The tertiary entrance examination board emphasized that part-time programmes are designed for individuals who are unable to attend regular programmes and should only be run on weekends or specific periods like Friday evenings.
This was made known through JAMB's X handle an attempt to reply a post on X 9formerly known as Twitter) by a user with the handle @MuizAdeniyi who said he did a daily part-time Ordinary National Diploma (OND) at the Lagos State Polytechnic.
In reaction JAMB said: “Daily Part-Time programmes are nothing but fraud. Part-time programmes are designed for a particular set of people who do not have time to attend regular programmes and are typically run by weekends or a particular period like Friday evening while regular programmes run daily from Monday to Friday even Saturday in rare cases.
“The question is how would an institution be running a regular programme as part-time, especially where such a programme is not known to the regulators. DPT programme is void and will not be condoned under whatever guise".
JAMB's crackdown comes as part of a broader effort to regulate and standardize admission processes in Nigeria. The board went further to set an August deadline for national diploma students from 2017 to 2020 to regularize their admission letters or face disqualification from National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and direct entry applications.
This development is poised to have far-reaching impacts for numerous students and institutions across the nation, emphasizing the need for a transparent and accountable education system. As JAMB continues to monitor and regulate admission processes, institutions and students must adapt to the new standards to avoid penalties and ensure a smooth academic journey for the betterment and reputation of the country.
National diploma (ND) also known as Ordinary National Diploma (OND) is a certification earned after completing a two-year polytechnic programme, which serves as a qualification for admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme.
The examination body further noted that students who fail to comply will not be allowed to apply for direct entry, a means to secure admission to 200 level to obtain a Bachelor’s degree.
