Bayelsa State is set to witness a boost in agricultural productivity with the arrival of four Korean engineers and agricultural experts.
The team, supported by the South Korean government, is in the state to train staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources on the technical operations of newly donated rice mills and to provide expertise in land preparation and rice planting at the School-to-Land rice farm along Imiringi Road, Yenagoa.
Governor Douye Diri hosted the Korean delegation at his home town in Sampou, where he commended them for their commitment to transferring knowledge and building the capacity of Bayelsa farmers.
The governor expressed optimism that the collaboration would revolutionize rice production in the state, making it a hub for agricultural development.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Beke Sese, who accompanied the delegation, highlighted the progress of the rice mills' installation and described the technical support from the Koreans as invaluable.
He reiterated the state's determination to achieve large-scale rice cultivation, reducing dependency on imported grains.
In another development, as the Christmas spirit enveloped Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri also received a delegation of women leaders from Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area at his Sampou residence.
Led by the Vice Chairman of the LGA, Barr. Anna Preye Inoru, the women, dressed in colorful traditional attire, presented a portrait to the governor, describing him as a “good leader and father.”
They praised his contributions to the community and pledged continued support for his administration.
The governor expressed gratitude for their visit, emphasizing the importance of unity and shared celebration during the festive season.
Continuing the celebrations, Governor Diri, accompanied by his wives, Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri and Honorable Justice Ama Patience Diri also attended a Christmas service at St. Peter's Anglican Church, Sampou.
Addressing the congregation, the governor urged Bayelsans to embrace the season's values of peace, love, and unity.
“This is a time to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, who brought peace and joy to the world. Let’s mark this season in harmony and gratitude,” he said.
The service was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, King Mozi Agara of Kolokuma clan, and other top government officials.
Governor Diri extended warm Christmas greetings to the people of Bayelsa State, calling for a renewed sense of togetherness as the state embraces progress in agriculture and other sectors.
