No November Salary Without Residency Registration, Kwara Tell Workers

The Kwara State Government has announced it will withhold salaries and bonuses of public sector workers who fail to complete their residents’ registration by the end of October. The groundbreaking move, declared by the State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, sends a powerful message to government employees: register with the Kwara State Residents’ Registration Agency (KWSRRA) or risk going unpaid.

In a press statement released on Monday in Ilorin, Dr. Nuru emphasized the seriousness of this directive, citing the state’s commitment to data-driven governance. "From November, any worker who has not registered will not receive salary payments or bonuses,” she stated, underscoring the government’s unwavering stance on the matter. Signed by Babatunde Abdulrasheed, the Ministry of Finance’s Press Secretary, the announcement has already stirred a significant response among state employees who have yet to comply.

The registration initiative, which officially began in July, aims to collect comprehensive data on all residents of Kwara State. KWSRRA, the agency responsible, is legally mandated to assign unique identity numbers to residents, a move the government says will improve planning, public safety, and equitable service delivery. The administration’s strong push for all workers, including those in the 16 local government areas, to register signals a bold step toward modernizing its records and payroll systems, a shift officials argue is long overdue.

“The integrity of our data affects all our financial and administrative systems,” Dr. Nuru said, adding that a complete and accurate database is essential for Kwara to make informed decisions and ensure fair compensation across the board. The commissioner argued that by requiring employees to register, the government would also eliminate discrepancies in its payroll, helping it allocate resources more effectively and fairly.

The state’s decision to leverage a resident registration database is part of a broader vision to streamline governance. In a move towards building trust and transparency, the Kwara State Government is committed to ensuring that only those registered in the official system are eligible for compensation. By establishing this comprehensive database, Kwara hopes to position itself as a model for efficient and equitable governance.

All state employees who have yet to register are now urged to complete their enrollment at the nearest KWSRRA center to avoid missing out on November salaries and future benefits.
