The National Examinations Council (NECO) released the results of the 2024 Senior Schools Certificate Examination (SSCE) yesterday. 828,284 candidates scored five credits, including English language and Mathematics. This represents 60.55% of the 1,367,736 candidates who sat for the examination.
Unveiling the results breakdown at the council's headquarters in Minna., the NECO Registrar and CEO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi said 1,147,597 candidates scored five credits and above, irrespective of English language and Mathematics, representing 83.90%.
The results also showed a 30.1% decline in examination malpractice, with 8,437 cases reported this year compared to 12,030 in 2023. Abia, Imo, and Ebonyi states topped the performance chart, while Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Zamfara states recorded the lowest performance.Wushishi disclosed that 40 schools were implicated in mass cheating in 17 states and would be invited for discussion before sanctions are applied.
One school in Ekiti State has been recommended for de-recognition for mass cheating in two core subjects and one science subject. Additionally, 21 supervisors in 12 states have been recommended for blacklisting for poor supervision, aiding and abetting, extortion, drunkenness, abscondment, and negligence.
