Obi Applauds Nigerian Heroes At CAF Football Awards

Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie for their remarkable achievements at the 2024 CAF Awards. Obi took to his official Twitter account to celebrate the success of the Nigerian football stars, highlighting the country's continued dominance in African football.

In his tweet, Obi expressed his pride in Lookman’s achievement of being named the African Footballer of the Year 2024. Lookman, a forward for the Super Eagles, was recognized for his outstanding performances, cementing his place as one of the continent’s top talents. Similarly, Obi praised Chiamaka Nnadozie, the goalkeeper for the Super Falcons, who was once again honored as the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year 2024, underscoring her excellence and consistency in goalkeeping.

Obi’s message also acknowledged the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, who triumphed as the Women’s National Team of the Year at the prestigious awards ceremony. This accolade was yet another testament to the team’s exceptional performances and dominance on the African continent, reaffirming their status as one of the best in the world.

“I am truly thrilled to see Nigeria shine once again on the continental stage,” Obi remarked. “Ademola Lookman’s recognition as African Footballer of the Year and Chiamaka Nnadozie’s achievement as Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year are monumental moments in our nation’s sporting history. Most importantly, the Super Falcons' victory as the Women’s National Team of the Year proves that Nigerian women’s football is at the very pinnacle of African excellence.”

Obi further expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their dedication, hard work, and the determination they have shown throughout their careers. He emphasized that these achievements not only elevate Nigeria’s standing in African sports but also serve as an inspiration for the country's youth.

“Through their achievements, Lookman, Nnadozie, and the Super Falcons have demonstrated the power of sports as a unifying force for our nation,” Obi continued. “They’ve shown us that with talent, hard work, and determination, we can accomplish anything. This also highlights the importance of investing in sports as a means of creating jobs and opportunities for our young people.”

The former presidential candidate also underscored the significance of prioritizing sports in Nigeria’s development agenda. “With a youthful population like ours, sports should be a key area of focus. We must invest more in this sector to harness the immense potential of our young talents. This is how we will build a New Nigeria that thrives on the strength and unity of its people,” Obi stated, closing his message with his signature optimism: “A New Nigeria remains POssible!”

In a nation where football has long been a source of national pride and a vehicle for social cohesion, the 2024 CAF Awards offered a powerful reminder of the potential of Nigerian athletes to achieve greatness on the global stage. As these victories unfold, they are bound to inspire even greater efforts to develop and support Nigerian sports.
