The Nigerian Army is calling on youths in Niger Delta to shun crime and embrace the ongoing free registration to join the Nigerian Army.
Brigadier General, Wiito Nzidee said this on Tuesday when led a delegation of the Nigerian Army to a courtesy to the Secretary to the State Government Dr. Tammy Danagogo in Port-Harcourt.
Brigadier General Wiito Nzidee, who also serves as the Acting Director of Supply and Transport Services at the Department of Army Logistics at Army Headquarters Abuja, also called on stakeholders in the state and the region to sensitize their youths to the opportunity to join the army.
He said the 88 regular recruit intake for trades, non-trades men, and women if embraced by the youths will reshape their lives.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, the garrison commander of the Six Division Nigerian Army, earlier in his speech said the directive is to sensitize the youths about the career prospects in the Nigerian Army.
In his response, the Secretary to the state Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo said the state government will drive the sensitization to the 23 local Government areas including traditional institutions for Rivers youths to join the military.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo while receiving Brig. Gen. W. L Nzidee further buttressed the desire of Governor Siminalayi Fubara to ensure the enlistment of citizens into the Army.
He said the Rivers State Government will continue to sensitize and encourage youths to join the military.
“The Governor has mandated me to enlighten our people and ensure that at the local levels, the council chairmen and traditional rulers also sensitize their wards; and via the mass media. We will continue to carry out these duties for the good of our people.
“However, I notice some level of apathy as some of our young people are no longer eager to join the Nigerian Army. Although they complain about the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) enlistment process, we have brilliant young men and women who are fit and eager to join the NDA” he said.
He appealed to the Army Headquarters to also ensure the same sensitization during the NDA admission processes.
“Every parent should encourage their children to belong to an elite organization such as the Army. We will continue to encourage our young ones to join the Army, he stressed.
