The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its much-anticipated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2025. The meeting has now been rescheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2025.
This crucial development was made public through an official statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Rt. Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye, and released in Abuja on Sunday. The statement provided insight into the reasons for the delay, citing the need for further consultations and the conclusion of pending internal processes.
The announcement emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth and hitch-free NEC meeting, given the party’s upcoming activities and political engagements. According to the National Secretary, the postponement follows "due deliberation by Party leaders, stakeholders, and relevant organs of the Party." The NWC, after consulting with key party bodies such as the Board of Trustees (BoT), the PDP Governors’ Forum, and the PDP National Assembly Caucus, made the decision to reschedule the meeting.
The statement elaborated on the necessity of concluding outstanding Zonal, State, Local Government, and Ward congresses before holding the NEC meeting. The NWC also highlighted the importance of further consultation with party stakeholders to guarantee a seamless meeting that aligns with the party’s broader agenda.
“All NEC Members should please note the date change and be guided accordingly,” the statement read, urging members to adjust their schedules in line with the new meeting date.
While the decision has sparked some speculation within political circles, party insiders believe that the postponement is aimed at ensuring that all necessary preparations are made ahead of the May 15 meeting, which is expected to address significant issues surrounding the party’s future strategies and forthcoming political engagements.
The National Secretary concluded the announcement by apologizing for any inconvenience the rescheduling may cause, stressing that the delay was inevitable. "The NWC sincerely regrets any inconveniences this change of date will cause distinguished members of NEC," he said.
