Peace Fund Donates N10M To Families Of Fallen Policemen  in Imo

As part of efforts to ameliorate their plight, an organization known as Peace Fund has disbursed the sum of N10million to families of 10 policemen in Imo State who died in active service.


The ten families got N1million each for petty trading in addition to food items such as bags of rice.


The handover of the money and food items took place on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the state Police Command headquarters in Owerri, Imo State capital.


In their separate speeches during the handover ceremony, a Director of the Peace Fund, Chief Daniel Akwari and Mrs Mary Ikokwu said the initiative is part of efforts by the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu to honour the fallen heroes for their sacrifices to the country.


The Deputy Speaker represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State.


In his remarks, the Imo State Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma expressed his profound gratitude to the Deputy Speaker and the Peace Fund for the initiative.


CP Aboki Danjuma who was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Hammajoda Barka emphasized that the gesture will boost the morale of serving personnel and reinforce their commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of the citizens.


He restated the commitment of the Imo State Police Command to working with the Peace Fund and similar organizations to support the families of police officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against crime in the society.


A member of the Police Officers' Wives Association POWA chapter in the state, Mrs Asogwa also thanked the Peace Fund and the Deputy Speaker for the kind gesture.


She acknowledged the positive impact the gesture will have on the recipient families of the fallen police personnel.


A beneficiary, Mrs Anyanwu Emmanuel who spoke on behalf of other receipts also expressed her profound gratitude to the Peace Fund for the kind gesture.


According to her, "This support is a lifeline for us, providing immediate relief and instilling hope for a sustainable future".


Recall that many police operatives have lost their lives while engaged in combat with men of the underworld. Sometimes, the hoodlums ambush and send the police operatives to their untimely graves.
