President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to embark on a five-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates to attend the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025. The trip, beginning Saturday, January 11, highlights Nigeria’s increasing engagement in international efforts to advance sustainable development.
According to a statement released by the Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Friday 10th of January, President Tinubu accepted an invitation from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to attend the summit scheduled from January 12 to 18.
The event is themed; “The Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress” and brings together global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss transformative solutions for a sustainable economy.
Over its 15-year history, ADSW has emerged as a key platform for forging partnerships and agreements that drive clean energy initiatives and accelerate global efforts toward sustainability. This year’s summit is expected to explore new strategies for achieving energy sufficiency, fostering public-private collaboration, and addressing global environmental challenges.
During the event, President Tinubu will highlight his administration’s ongoing reforms, particularly those aimed at enhancing energy access, improving public transportation, bolstering economic growth, and ensuring public health. Beyond the summit, he will meet with UAE leadership to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss issues of mutual interest.
Accompanying the President are Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior government officials. Tinubu’s delegation is expected to return to Nigeria on Thursday, January 16.
This marks the President’s second international trip in 2025, following his attendance at John Mahama’s presidential inauguration in Ghana earlier in the week. While in Ghana, Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to fostering regional partnerships and supporting neighboring governments in their developmental pursuits.
President Tinubu’s upcoming participation in ADSW reflects his administration’s intent to position Nigeria as a key player in global sustainability and energy dialogues while promoting economic growth and international cooperation.
