A final year Environmental Science student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Okoroafor Emmanuel Chinedu has been arrested by operatives of the Imo State Police Command for allegedly having forceful knowledge of some female students of the institution.
Chinedu, who is also the Commander of Man O War Security Organization at the institution, was picked up at the premises of the university on Friday.
A reliable source told our correspondent that Chinedu has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department at the police headquarters in Owerri on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma.
Chinedu's arrest followed a petition forwarded to the Police Commissioner by a group known as Onurube Gender-Based Coalition.
The rights group had urged the Commissioner of Police to use his good office to bring to Chinedu to book Chinedu.
Onurube claimed it has multiple evidence to nail Chinedu for stalking and sexually assaulting some students of the university.
In the petition signed by the Convener, Marjorie Ezihe, the group alleged that Okoroafor deployed his position as the Commander of the Man O'War Security Organization in the university to take advantage of the female students.
When contacted, the spokesman of the police in the state, Henry Okoye, confirmed the arrest, saying investigation is on to establish Chinedu 's culpability or otherwise.
