Police Arrests Son Who Killed His Mother in Delta

A school proprietress, Mrs Umukoro has allegedly been murdered by her son, Emmanuel Umukoro, in Delta State.

The boy was allegedly said to have murdered his mother in their house in Delta State.

Reports gathered by journalists show that Mrs Umukoro, is the proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools in Sapele, Delta State.

Reports also indicate that the tragic incident, which took place in the late hours of the night, has left everyone including the neighbours in the neighborhood of the scene of the incident in a state of shock and bewilderment.

Speaking to journalists, some of the neighbours who pleaded not to be named, described the incident as gruesome and horrific to behold.

According to eyewitnesses at the scene of the event, the gate of the Umukoro residence was left open around 10 pm, which was unusual because it hadn't happened before, this prompted some neighbours and passers-by to check on Mrs. Umukoro's residence.

Upon getting to the house , the neighbours discovered fire coming out from inside the house with the door left continually open without a sound of movement, confirming that there was no one in the house at the moment.

Getting into the house, they found the lifeless body of Mrs. Umukoro, burnt beyond recognition.

The eyewitnesses said that they saw Mrs. Umukoro's son driving out of the compound where they live, at past 8:30pm at a very high speed.

“We saw her son, Emmanuel Umukoro driving out of the compound around 8:30 pm at a high speed in his mother’s car”, the eyewitness said.

The neighbours said that, because of the suspicious movement of the son, it led to him being apprehended by police operatives along Sapele-Warri Road as he (son) attempted to escape to an unknown destination.

When the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, was contacted on Sunday, September 8, 2024, he confirmed the incident.

The son is currently in the custody of the Delta State Police awaiting further interrogation and investigations to conclude if he was truly the one that murdered his mother.

In his words: “The son is in police custody now but cannot say whether he’s the one that killed her until investigation is concluded”
