Police Reassures Imo Civil Servants Of Safety Amid IPOB Threat

The Imo State Police Command has reassured civil servants of their safety amidst threat allegedly issued by the separatist Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP, Aboki Danjuma gave the assurance when he paid a working visit to the state and federal secretariats located along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Speaking during the visit, CP Aboki Danjuma underscored the readiness and commitment of the operatives of the command to the protection of the workers and other citizens as well as properties in the state

He disclosed that some police operatives in the command had been detailed to implement an enhanced security strategy for enhanced working environment in the secretariats and other areas of the state.

A statement signed by the police spokesman in the state, ASP Henry Okoye reads; "The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, together with his management team, on 28/08/2024 made a significant visit to both the Federal and State Secretariats in Imo State to reassure civil servants of their maximum safety amidst recent threats from the proscribed IPOB/ESN terrorist group

"During the visit, CP Danjuma engaged with the civil servants, underscoring the Command's readiness and commitment to their protection.

"He detailed the mobilization of well-equipped operatives and assured the implementation of enhanced security strategies to ensure a safe working environment in the secretariat and other areas in the state".

Responding, the State Head of Service, Barrister Raymond Ucheoma, commended CP Aboki Danjuma for his proactive approach in addressing the IPOB threat.

He noted that the deployment of water-tight security at the Secretariats provided workers with the confidence needed to carry out their duties effectively.

Recall that workers hardly report at their duty posts on Mondays for fear of attacks following the declaration of Mondays as sit-at-home days.

The IPOB which declared the sit-at-home had since announced its cancellation but fear still grips many residents and workers who prefer to observe it than come the harm's way.

Findings revealed that it is the Simon Ekpa faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra that currently issues threats to the people of the South East Zone when the IPOB led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had since called off sit-at-home in the region.
