Rivers State Governor Fubara Reaffirms Support For Security

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has once again reiterated his unwavering commitment to the welfare of security agencies. Speaking during the commissioning of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized the vital collaboration between his administration and security forces, highlighting the state government's pivotal role in enhancing the safety of Rivers residents.

The occasion, held on Monday, marked the completion of two blocks of 12 flats, each featuring two-bedroom residential units, which had been initially started in 2017 but left unfinished. The project, now fully realized, is a significant testament to the state government's dedication to the well-being of security officers, particularly those serving with the Nigerian Air Force.

"This project was conceived in 2017 at a cost of N212 million, but for various reasons, it was not completed," Governor Fubara explained. "When our administration came into power, we took a deep look at it, understanding the crucial need for providing adequate housing for the Air Force personnel. Upon review, the cost had escalated to N454 million."

Fubara went on to stress that, despite the increased costs, the state government found it a necessary investment. "What is N454 million when compared to the invaluable support we receive from the Nigerian Air Force? Their personnel are part of the joint task force protecting the lives and property of our people, and we use their airstrip for various state operations."

The governor highlighted that supporting the security agencies, especially those working relentlessly to combat oil theft, illegal bunkering, and other crimes, was not solely the responsibility of the federal government. Instead, he believes that local governments, such as Rivers State, should play an active role in contributing to the welfare of these critical personnel.

"The security of our state is a shared responsibility, and we will continue to support our men and women in uniform," Fubara stated firmly. "This project is proof that our commitment goes beyond words – it's about taking action and seeing it through to completion."

The Governor also lauded the Nigerian Air Force for its continuous and tireless efforts in maintaining peace and order in the region, particularly in the fight against economic sabotage and criminal activities. Fubara emphasized that the relationship between the state government and the security agencies would only grow stronger.

In his address, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, expressed immense gratitude to Governor Fubara and the Rivers State Government for completing the long-awaited housing project. He pointed out that the new facilities would significantly enhance the morale of the Air Force personnel stationed in the state, enabling them to carry out their duties with even greater effectiveness.

"I am truly delighted with the completion of this project, which will undoubtedly boost the welfare of our officers," Air Marshal Abubakar said. "The Nigerian Air Force has always enjoyed a strong and supportive relationship with successive Rivers State governments, and this is a clear indication of the continued collaboration between us."

Air Commodore A.H. Idris, the Commander of the 115 Special Operations Group of the Nigerian Air Force in Port Harcourt, also praised Governor Fubara for his leadership and vision. "Governor Fubara's remarkable achievement in completing this project is a shining testament to his dedication to ensuring the welfare of security personnel," he said.

The Commissioner for Special Projects, Dr. Roland Obed-Whyte, who oversaw the completion of the housing units, further emphasized the importance of the project. "The two blocks of 12 flats, which were abandoned by previous administrations, are now a fully functional housing unit that will cater to the needs of the hardworking personnel of the Nigerian Air Force," he noted.

This strategic initiative by Governor Fubara underscores the Rivers State Government's commitment to fostering a secure environment for residents, reinforcing the collaborative efforts between state and federal security agencies, and ensuring that those protecting the state are adequately supported. With this completion, the governor has not only provided crucial infrastructure but has also set a precedent for future investments in security and welfare across the state.
