Senator Anyanwu Criticizes Establishment Of IDP Camp In Imo

A former senator, Chief Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has criticized the plan of the All Progressives Congress-led federal government to establish an Internally Displaced Persons IDP Camp In Imo State.

Chief Anyanwu who represented Imo East between 2015 and 2019 said the proposed IDP Camp would expose innocent and harmless citizens to danger.

The senator who is popularly known as Samdaddy made his stance known in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha

Anyanwu lashed out at the APC administration in the state led by Senator Hope Uzodimma for claiming that it was not prior to plan to establish the IDP Camp at Nsu in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

According to Anyanwu who serves as the National Secretary of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, the Uzodimma administration should cover its face in utter shame for claiming that it had no idea of the plan to establish soch a life-threatening camp where 'refugees' from Boko Haram-ravaged Northern region would be quartered.

Anyanwu said; "It is not only despicable and deliberate intention by APC administration to trade Imo people for money, but an afront by the present administration in the state to tactically house "unknown" individuals for a hidden assignment the government is yet to unveil.

"As a leader that believes in the growth, development and success of Imo state and its citizens, such disturbing camp if allowed to operate may likely spark-off tribal conflict, trigger religious war, adversely affect agricultural produce, discourage farming, and create panic across the state.

"It is a deliberate attempt to mock Imo people in the midst of debilitating, excruciating and harsh economy the government of APC has brought them into.

"The questions the present administration in the state has failed to answer are; what has it done to bring smile and laughter on the faces of Imo citizens?

"Why is the government in a haste and so concerned about establishing a refugee camp that would house foreigners rather than building factories, ensuring that the premises of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in Ehime Mbano is equiped?

"What is the government's hidden agenda for establishing this camp? Imo people need explanation within 48 hours.

"While Imo people await urgent response from the government, there is every reason to conclude that APC administration in Imo state does not have shame, no vision, no blueprint, no definite direction and no plan for the citizens apart from frivolities.

"The government has flagrantly ignored all channels to bring peace, unity and cohesion, despite the resources available to it. I

"t has rather compounded its problems and challenges because, those piloting its affairs are insensitive and visionless. This is the height of it all!".
