'T-pain': Atiku Slams Tinubu Over Fuel Subsidy crisis

Atiku Abubakar, Former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate has condemned the manner President Bola Tinubu has handled the fuel subsidy crisis, referring to him as “TPain” in a tweet on Thursday.

Atiku likened the Nigerian current economic crisis to what he described as the “haphazard and disingenuous approach” of the Tinubu administration to fuel subsidy management.

Atiku in the tweet expressed concern about the rising nflation rate, stating that it is severely impacting the lives of Nigerians.

He lamented that despite the growing hardships, Tinubu appears unfazed by the plight of the citizens.

Atiku wrote “The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country.

“As things stand, there will be no let up in the escalating inflation rate, which is drowning the material well-being of Nigerians.

“It is even more worrying that T-pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country,”.

The nickname ‘T-Pain’ for Tinubu emerged as a play on the first letter of his name and the name of American rapper and producer T-Pain, sparked by frustrations over the rising cost of living under his administration.

T-pain as learnt is a term used by netizens and has it's earliest mention on social media since  April 2024.

The phrase in question went viral around September 16, after a social media user referenced President Tinubu's visit to Maiduguri, where he met with fl ood victims and offered condolences

The term has gained polularity on various social media platforms.

People's Gazette , a News media platform gathered that deprecating nicknames have long been assigned to Nigerian leaders, including Ibrahim ‘Maradona’ Babangida and Goodluck ‘Badluck’ Jonathan, but only Tinubu’s 'Tpain' has complained about the source of his label: social media.

In another development, Atiku Abubakar has written to the National Assembly, requesting an amendment to the Constitution to allow for a six-year single term for the President and state governors.

According to the explanatory note covering the proposals by Atiku, the amendments that he seeks in the review of the constitution aim at the following:
