Tems Leads Nigerian Grammy Nominees with Three Nods for 2025 Awards

Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, widely recognized by her stage name Tems, has garnered three prestigious nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards.


This achievement elevates her career total to an impressive eight Grammy nominations, cementing her position as one of Nigeria's most internationally acclaimed artists.


The Grammy nominations, revealed on Friday, placed Tems at the forefront of Nigerian artists recognized this year, with additional nominations going to celebrated artists including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido, and Rema.


Among the nominees, Tems stands out as the most-nominated Nigerian artist this year. Her three nominations position her alongside top global contenders, with Beyoncé leading the overall list with an astounding 11 nominations.


The 67th Annual Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 2, 2025, will honor the finest achievements in music recorded and released during the eligibility period from September 16, 2023, to August 30, 2024. The event will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where artists from across the globe will gather to celebrate the highest achievements in the music industry.


Among the categories featuring Nigerian nominees, Tems is recognized in the highly competitive Best African Music Performance for her track "Love Me JeJe." She joins an illustrious lineup that includes "MMS" by Asake and Wizkid, "Higher" by Burna Boy, "Sensational" by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and "Tomorrow" by Yemi Alade.


Tems is also nominated in the Best Global Music Album category for her work Born in the Wild, competing alongside "Heis" by fellow Nigerian Rema, Historias de un Flamenco by Antonio Rey, Paisajes by Ciro Hurtado, and Alkebulan II by Matt B & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.


Her third nomination comes in the Best R&B Song category for her soulful track "Burning," placing her alongside industry heavyweights Coco Jones, Kehlani, Muni Long, and SZA.


The Grammy Awards will also highlight key categories including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist. Among the Record of the Year nominees are acclaimed artists such as The Beatles for "Now and Then," Beyoncé for "Texas Hold ’Em," and Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone for "Fortnight."


The Album of the Year category features artists like André 3000, Billie Eilish, and Jacob Collier, while Song of the Year sees nominations for Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga with Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift with Post Malone.


In the Best New Artist category, fresh talents including Benson Boone, Doechii, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter are celebrated, reflecting the Grammys' commitment to recognizing both established and emerging artists shaping the music landscape today.
