Nigerian music icon Timaya, born Inetimi Odomimaya, recently opened up about his decision to remain unmarried despite having four children with three women. Speaking on Naija FM, the Dem Mama crooner shared his long-held belief that marriage is not for him, though he admitted his perspective could change someday.
“I’ve never been a “marriage guy", but it can change because marriage is crazy,” the 44-year-old said. “I look at it like if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was the one who got out because I don’t like stress.”
The singer emphasized his preference for open communication in relationships, revealing he dislikes unresolved issues. He said, “If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it because I don’t like going to bed thinking about things.”
Timaya also touched on his role as a father, describing it as both stressful and rewarding. While his children live with their mothers, they spend months together at his home. “We’re all family now, and we respect each other,” he noted, emphasizing a harmonious co-parenting relationship.
Known for hits like Plantain Boy and Dem Mama, Timaya’s candid take on relationships and fatherhood showcases his commitment to personal freedom and honest living.
