University of Africa Toru-Orua Welcomes New Librarian

The University of Africa Toru-Orua (UAT) has announced the appointment of Dr. Oyinkepreye Sawyerr-George (CLN) as its new University Librarian. A distinguished expert in library and information science, Dr. Sawyerr-George joins the institution with over two decades of impactful service in the education sector. Her appointment marks a new chapter for UAT’s library services, as she brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and innovation to the role.


Dr. Sawyerr-George’s illustrious career in library science began with a strong academic foundation. She holds a Diploma in Library Science and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field, both of which she pursued with unwavering dedication. To further deepen her expertise, she earned a Doctorate in Library and Information Science from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka. These achievements reflect her commitment to academic excellence and her passion for advancing the vital role libraries play in education and society.


Over the years, Dr. Sawyerr-George has proven herself to be a leader and a visionary in her field. With more than 25 years of professional experience, she has contributed significantly to the development of library systems in various institutions. Her journey includes serving at the Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science Elebele, where she played a key role in restructuring and modernizing library operations. At the Bayelsa State College of Education Okpoama and the Bayelsa State Polytechnic, she continued her mission of enhancing library systems to better support academic success and research initiatives.


An accomplished researcher and prolific writer, Dr. Sawyerr-George has published numerous articles in respected academic journals. Her research focuses on the evolving role of libraries in the digital age, strategies for improving information accessibility, and the integration of technology in library systems. Her work not only advances scholarly discourse but also provides practical solutions to the challenges facing libraries today.
