NCDMB Pledges to Foster Stronger Community, Industry Bonds

The 13th edition of the Practical Nigerian Content (PNC) Forum concluded in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday, December 5, 2024.


The four-day event, hosted at the Nigerian Content Tower (NCT), was marked by insightful discussions, stakeholder engagement, and a renewed commitment by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) to deepen collaborations with local communities and the oil and gas industry.


In a Statement released late Friday night, NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by Barr. Esueme Dan Kikile, General Manager of Corporate Communications and Zonal Coordination, expressed profound gratitude to stakeholders, vendors, and NCDMB staff for their contributions to the forum's success.


He described their active participation as pivotal in shaping strategies to advance Nigerian Content implementation.


Key highlights of the event included the unveiling of initiatives such as the Back-to-the-Creeks Programme, the Revised Nigerian Content Community Contractors Financing Scheme, the Nigerian Content Academy, and plans for new zonal offices.


These programmes as stated during the conference was to enhance community engagement, empower local contractors, and boost skills development.


The Back-to-the-Creeks Programme, according to Engr. Ogbe, is designed to equip youths with skills aligned to industry demands by improving educational facilities and motivating teachers.


Meanwhile, the revised Contractors Financing Scheme increases the single obligor limit from ₦20 million to ₦100 million, enabling local contractors to execute substantial projects.


The forum also featured diverse panel discussions on topics such as "Nigerian Content Beyond Borders," "Community Capacity Building," and "From Policy to Practice: Strengthening Domestication for Economic Development." Experts debated barriers to cross-border trade, community impact strategies, and opportunities in the oil and gas supply chain.


Presentations explored the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), with trade expert Olusegun Olutayo emphasizing its potential for economic integration, and the Marine Accelerator Programme, aimed at improving safety and efficiency in marine services. Additionally, the Youth Empowerment Pathway (YEP) initiative outlined strategies for bridging workforce skills gaps.


The forum concluded with a site visit to the First Marine and Engineering Services Limited facility in Yenagoa, further emphasising the commitment to fostering partnerships for energy sector growth.


PNC 2024 once again affirmed its role as a vital platform for advancing Nigerian Content, supporting energy sufficiency, and driving economic development in the oil and gas sector.
