Valencia Appeals Further Postponement Of Copa Del Rey Game

In a recent turn of events, Valencia has requested on Monday that their postponed Copa del Rey first-round clash with Parla Escuela be delayed again because of the devastating flooding in the region.

According to reports, at least 217 people died, with many more still missing, after an intense storm hit the east of Spain last week.

Valencia's Copa del Rey game was originally scheduled to be played last week but was pushed back to 6th November by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

On the other hand, the Spanish club's LaLiga match due to be played last Saturday against champions Real Madrid was also postponed and Los Che asked the club to delay their cup game again.

In the statement released on Valencia's official X handle, Valencia said: "The club thinks that, at this time of great difficulty, all energy, attention and support must be focused on helping those affected by the tragic events of (the storm)."

"Football is in the background. We wish to convey our deepest condolences and our love to the families and friends of the deceased and those affected by this catastrophe that leaves us devastated."

Furthermore, several coaches and players from La Liga teams suggested all fixtures should have been postponed at the weekend instead of only Valencia's match and Villarreal against Rayo Vallecano.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone said it made "no sense" to play matches.

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick revealed on Saturday, that his team were in high spirits after their thumping win at Real Madrid and had turned their attention to derby rivals Espanyol, but the German said all sport should be suspended due to the deadly floods in Valencia.

While speaking in an interview on Saturday, coach Flick said: "I know what a Barca-Espanyol derby means. It will be a tough match, for sure. After a fantastic week, it is important to be at 100% tomorrow, with intensity and maximum quality."

"We always prepare well for the next game. After the celebrations, we focus on the next game. We work on what we want tomorrow. It's a very long game in the league and we focus on the next game."

But, like many others in sport, Flick also expressed his concerns about playing during a time of tragedy after the deadliest flash floods in Spain's modern history killed at least 211 people while dozens are still unaccounted for.

"If it were me, I might do it (suspend sport) because it is an incredible tragedy for Valencia and Spain as a whole," flick added.

"We have spoken with Ferran (Torres), who is from the area, and it is not easy to decide whether the game should be played or not."

"For me it is a tragedy. It was something similar in Germany three years ago, it is horrible. We will do everything we can to help. The rest is for LaLiga to decide," he concluded.
