Abia Journalist Laid to Rest in Emotional Farewell

Abia Journalist Laid To rest

It was a moment of mixed feelings, as the Correspondent of Century News Update, Late Benjamin Omoh, was laid to rest in his hometown, in Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.


Late Benjamin Onoh who died few months, after a complication in his health, was paid the final respect by members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists,Abia State Chapter.


Speaking at the funeral service, the Chairman of Abia NUJ, Comrade Victor Ndukwe, said the death of Benjamin Onoh,still remained a shock to the union.


According to Ndukwe, the Late Onoh was a very active and vibrant journalist, calm and unassuming and always eager to practice his trade, contributing to the development of the society. He said that his demise is a minus to his family, community and a great loss to the journalism profession and society at large.

The Union in their Tribute,urged the immediate family to bear the loss with fortitude,as it does not matter how long one spend on earth,but the impact one is able to create,while alive. They stated that the late Onoh would be remembered for his doggedness and determination to succeed.


In her Homily, the Minister in charge of the Presbyterian Church of Dominion Parish,Agbama Housing Estate, Umuahia, Rev Amarachi Nze,charged the attendees on the reason they should prepare for their deaths.


According to Rev Nze, people often prepare for various aspects of life, but rarely contemplate their own mortality.


Citing Psalm 90:12-14, she emphasized the importance of acknowledging the brevity of life and living with a sense of urgency. She said by numbering our days, Christians can cultivate a mindset of readiness, living each moment as if Christ's return is imminent.


This perspective,the cleric noted, encourages believers to abstain from sin and strive for righteousness, ensuring a glorious eternal reward.


 Rev Nze stressed that the unpredictability of death's timing underscores the need for constant preparedness, living each day with intention and purpose."Nobody knows the time or hour death would come, hence, the need to live ready".


In their various Tributes, the New Abia Patriots, members of the Presbyterian Church, Umuahia and some members of the family, gave positive comments about the late Benjamin Onoh, describing him as one who would always fight for justice and as well, advocates for anyone being ill treated.


Until his death,the Late Benjamin Onoh was a Director of Information in the Abia State Civil Service and he survived by his wife, Mrs Martha Benjamin and five children. He was aged 54.
