Abia LP Rejects Dissolution of SWC by Abure-Led NWC

The Abia State Labour Party has rejected the dissolution of the State Working Committee by the Julius Abure-led faction, asserting that the decision lacks legitimacy and does not reflect the views of the party's broader membership.

The assertion was made in a statement by the Abia State Labour Party Chairman, Hon. Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Otti.

Otti consequently urged all party faithful to disregard the news of the dissolution.

”Please kindly disregard claims of dissolution; they're deceitful and baseless. Individuals listed have publicly disclaimed involvement”, the statement read.

He claimed that Abure, who has failed to win local government elections in Edo State, is trying to form an illegal parallel leadership in Abia State.

He assured members, stakeholders, and supporters that these allegations are completely untrue.

He highlighted that there is no truth to the claims being made, and that they remain committed to maintaining transparency and unity within the organization.

Recall that the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee, NWC, faction of the Labour Party announced the dissolution of the Abia State Interim Leadership Committee SWC.

Our correspondent reported that the sack of the Abia SWC was contained in a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by the Abure-led faction, dated Monday October 14, 2024.

The letter, jointly signed by Abure and factional National Secretary Umar Farouk Ibrahim, also announced the appointment of a 15-member Caretaker Committee led by Dr. G. O. Ndubueze to oversee the party's operations.

The letter also stated that the newly formed Caretaker Committee will serve for three months, during which a permanent leadership will be established.

Just last Wednesday, October 9, 2024, an Abuja Federal High Court affirmed the election of the Abure leadership in Nnewi, declaring it the legitimate NWC.

The Organizers of the Umuahia enlarged stakeholders meeting have opted to appeal the trial court ruling, but the Abure-led LP had stated that the Nenadi Usman leadership is not recognized under current laws and therefore lacks the standing to contest the Nnewi Convention or the Abuja court ruling that confirmed the Abure-led NWC as the legitimate party leadership.

They conveyed a strong sense of confidence, emphasizing that the party is unfazed by the appeal attempt. Additionally, he highlighted that important members from the Umuahia enlarged NEC meeting, such as Obi and Governor Otti, are not participants in the lawsuit.
