Abia LP Slams PDP Over ‘Shadow Government’

Key members of the ruling Labour Party (LP) in Abia State have condemned the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for creating a ‘shadow government’ in the state.

At a meeting held at the Labour Party’s Umuahia state secretariat, stakeholders noted that in under two years, Otti has outperformed the achievements of many previous administrations.

Labour Party representatives from all 17 Local Government Areas in the state also expressed their full support for Governor Alex Otti, applauding his progress in development.

They criticized the PDP for acting unconstitutionally under the guise of opposition.

They questioned why the PDP, which governed the state for 20 years without any opposition creating a ‘shadow government,’ would resort to such actions less than two years after losing power.

They pointed out that the PDP is directionless and lacks the moral standing to criticize the Otti administration, which inherited a massive debt and crumbling infrastructure from them.

At the meeting, LP Chairman in Abia, Hon. Emmanuel Nweze Oti, and other speakers praised Governor Otti for his transformative agenda, which they believe has set Abia on the road to progress.

They noted that the state had never experienced such positive change and urged the opposition to offer constructive criticism rather than engage in ‘destructive opposition’ after losing power.

They commended the Governor for prioritizing competence over other considerations in his appointments and assured him of the party leadership and members’ ongoing loyalty to his administration.

Labeling the accusations as ‘unfounded and a tactic of a bitter opposition,’ the Labour Party stakeholders stated that Otti was entrusted with the mandate to lead the entire state and should not face any restrictions in selecting his appointees.

Governor Otti recently condemned the formation of a shadow government by the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, labeling it a treasonous act and pledging to take firm legal action against it.

He stated that the idea of a shadow government is incompatible with the country’s presidential system of democracy.

He clarified that a shadow government does not exist in a presidential democracy, emphasizing that the issue stems from ignorance, with some refusing to be informed. He added that shadow governments are a feature of parliamentary democracies, not presidential ones.
