Governorship election began today, 21 September, 2024 in Edo State and willing electorates are going to cast their votes for their choice candidates.
To perform his civic right, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki on Saturday cast his vote in the ongoing election.
Obaseki arrived early at polling unit 19, Ward 4, Oredo, located inside Emokpae Primary School, Benin City, the state capital to cast his vote.
The governor expressed his satisfaction with the voting process so far. He also stated that he is optimistic that the collation of votes by Inec officials would also be seamless.
Similarly, The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo, also exercised his Franchise at his voting centre, Okaigben Ward 1, Unit 3, situated in Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was learnt that the PDP governorship aspirant Ighodalo Asue arrived at the polling booth at about 10:33 am, a few minutes after INEC’s officials arrived.
Ighodalo was also accompanied by his wife Ifeyinwa to cast their ballot at Okaigben Ward 1, unit 3, Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi.
The couple were accredited at about 12.03 pm for voting at Okaigben Ward 1, unit 3, Idinrio Primary School, Okaigben, Ewohimi.
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate has voiced disappointment over the delayed arrival of voting materials, noting that voting can still take place within the allotted timeframe.
The candidate is set to face off against All Progressives Congress (APC) contender, Monday Ekpobholo, in the Edo Central Senatorial District, where both hopefuls have strong roots.
The Edo Central Senatorial District comprises of Esan South-East, Igueben and Esan North East, Esan West and Esan Central LGAs.
Seventeen candidates are eyeing the governorship position of Edo State, with sixteen men and one woman in the running.
