EDO GUBER: PDP Loses Igbinedion

After dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, the daughter of Esama of Benin and a former member of the House of Representatives, led her supporters to the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday, which saw its political fortunes soar.

She was given a warm reception during the flag-off of the APC governorship campaign in the Edo South senatorial district. She was one of the political leaders who surrounded the nearly eight-year administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

In the same event, APC candidate Sen. Okpebholo’s plan for security, infrastructure development, education, agriculture, and water provision was summarized in a five-point manifesto he unveiled on Monday, August 12, 2024.

Leaders of the party from the 77 wards in the Edo South district were present at the rally held at the Ekewan Campus of the University of Benin.

Speaking at the rally, a former Gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, said the PDP’s end at the helm of affairs in the state has come, while a former PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) member, who recently defected to the APC, Hon Charles Idahosa, urged the people of Edo Central to organise a debate for Okpebholo and his PDP counterpart, Asue Ighodalo, in their homeland.

Idahosa expressed regret for leading Obaseki from the APC to the PDP, citing a mistake.

The acting APC state chairman, Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, received Igbinedion and her two brothers, Mike and Fred Igbinedion, and stated that the party is willing to take back the state.

According to Igbinedion, the reason for her defection from the PDP was due to the APC’s support of her vision for the people of Ovia.

“There was Esan Agenda and I also have the Ovia agenda, the APC has fulfilled the Ovia Agenda because we have never produced a deputy governor and the APC has picked our own, Hon Dennis Idahosa as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.”, she said.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, on his part, asserted that Igbinedion is a valuable asset to APC, as he urged the populace to reject PDP.

“They claim to be technocrats and in this era of seeking knowledge, they destroyed a library and replaced it with shoprite. I can assure you that our candidate will turn it back to a digital library.

They destroyed a hospital and are building a museum for them to re-loot returned artefacts which belonged to the palace, our candidate will partner the palace to build the Benin Royal Museum for the kingdom. He rebuilt the Benin Water Storm project and desilted the city to check flooding”, he said .
