The Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State played host to the vibrant 19th edition of the Prosperity Walk, a weekly fitness initiative designed to promote health and well-being among residents.
The event, which was held at the council headquarters, on November 28 saw active participation from community members, council officials, and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Prosperity Walk is part of the Bayelsa State Government’s broader agenda to prioritize public health under the directive that "health is wealth."
In alignment with this vision, the Chairman of Ekeremor LGA, Hon. Onniye Isaac, ensured the continuation of this grassroots initiative, though he was represented at the event by Hon. Esamasuode Agwanana, Supervisory Councillor for Youths and Sports.
The walk exemplifies the council’s dedication to integrating the statewide fitness programme into the lives of its people.
Residents of Ekeremor LGA gather every Thursday to participate in the initiative, which not only fosters physical fitness but also promotes community unity and a shared sense of purpose.
Adding excitement to the event, a raffle draw was conducted, with 15 lucky winners walking away with various prizes.
This engaging feature has become a hallmark of the Prosperity Walk, encouraging greater participation and enthusiasm among attendees.
Hon. Onniye Isaac reaffirmed his commitment to fostering health and unity within the local government area, aligning his efforts with the overarching vision of Bayelsa State’s Prosperity Government, led by Governor Sen. Douye Diri and Deputy Governor Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
In a related development, the Bayelsa State Government has raised concerns over unauthorized planting on medians and embankments along major roads, including Glory Drive Phase 2 and the Igbogene/AIT Outer Ring Road.
These activities according to the government have been identified as contributing to erosion and potential damage to infrastructure.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, on Thursday November 28, issued a 7-day ultimatum for the removal of crops planted in these areas by farmers.
Non-compliance will result in the government taking action to remove or destroy the crops in the interest of preserving the roads.
