Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Sunday attended the fifth remembrance anniversary of Deaconess Magdalene Zipuamere Egukawhore in Patani, Delta State.
The event, held in Patani Local Government Area, commemorated the life and legacy of the late Deaconess, who passed away five years ago.
Deaconess Egukawhore was the mother of High Chief Emonina Wayles Egukawhore, the Chairman of De-Wayles Group of Companies, a fully indigenous company located in Warri Delta State, incorporated to promote international Maritime standards and practices in Nigeria and the West African Marine Industry.
Emonina shares a close friendship with Governor Diri.
Governor Diri was accompanied by key political figures, including Senator Benson Konbowei, representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District; Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Hon. Solomon Agwana; Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo; and Hon. Gabriel Africa Onyewife.
Other prominent attendees included former Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa; Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Oyeme; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; members of the Delta State National and State Assemblies; Delta State Executive Council officials; and Local Government Area Chairmen.
The ceremony was marked by a solemn yet celebratory atmosphere, as dignitaries paid their respects to the late Deaconess and acknowledged her contributions to her family and community.
Meanwhile, Governor Diri, his wife Dr. (Mrs.) Gloria Diri, and Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo,also participated in the 2024 Annual Adult Harvest Thanksgiving Service at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The thanksgiving service, themed “Honour the Lord with Thy Substance,” brought together government officials, community leaders, and residents in a spirit of gratitude and celebration.
During his address, Governor Diri urged Bayelsans to embrace love, unity, and mutual support while rejecting bitterness and divisiveness. He emphasized that a harmonious environment is essential for the state’s progress and prosperity.
The event was attended by notable figures, including Senator Konbowei Friday Benson, Hon. Oboku Oforji, and Rt. Hon. Edwin Monday Bubou Obolo, among others, highlighting the unity and shared purpose of Bayelsa's leadership and citizens.
Other notable attendees included members of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Agwana, Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (Bayelsa State Chapter), and Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the State Government.
