How Hoodlums Bombed APP Rivers Office - PPRO

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that they found evidence that the attackers responsible for attacking and detonating explosives at the Actions People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt drove in a car before carrying out the evil act.

The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that two young men boarded the vehicle and detonated the explosive upon arrival at the scene.

She reported that the command received a distress call on August 12, 2024, reporting an audible blast at the APP secretariat situated in Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt.

According to her, the state police commissioner and tactical units, which included experts from the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD/Anti-Bomb) Squad, were immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.

The team started Explosive Ordinance Disposal procedures and search operations after cordoning off the area, she added.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) noted that the command’s EOD experts detected a hole in front of the building where the device was installed, which resulted in shockwaves and damaged the glass of the windows and doors.

“Eyewitnesses around the time the explosion was heard revealed that a car had been parked a few metres from the APP secretariat and two men had alighted from the car, walked to the building and ignited the suspected device before throwing it at the secretariat. They then re-entered the vehicle and drove off.

“The discovery of a crater and other pieces of evidence, as well as eyewitness accounts, indicate the detonation of an explosive device. Thankfully, no loss of life was recorded, but damage was done to the front of the building.

“Samples from the site of the explosion have been taken for further forensic investigation. Operatives of the command have been detailed to intensify efforts to investigate and apprehend all suspects involved in this incident,” she said.

Mr. Preye Josiah is believed to be the primary suspect behind the explosion that occurred at Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt, during a protest by anti-Fubara individuals in the state, according to the PPRO.

She mentioned that Josiah is on the police’s wanted list and is still in the hospital due to the injuries he inflicted on himself after blowing himself up.
