The Hurricane Helene disaster that struck on Friday and late Tuesday evening caused massive destructions in atleast ten states in the United States of America.
The death toll from Hurricane Helene has risen to a total of one hundred and sixty-six and has continued to rise across multiple states as search efforts persist, and survivors in the region face hardships, including lack of running water, electricity, and food.
Two workers at a plastics factory in Erwin, Tennessee, United States, are confirmed dead after floodwaters swept away 11 employees during Hurricane Helene’s devastating impact. The floodwaters engulfed the area around the factory, with rivers overflowing onto the highway near the factory.
Impact Plastics released a statement on Monday, claiming they “continued to monitor weather conditions” and dismissed workers when water began to rise. Although it was reported that helicopter rescue came to their aid, but was also criticized for delay in evacuating. Workers said that the evacuation should have been done much earlier when they first got the flash flood warning.
The founder of 'Impact Plastic', Gerald O'Connor expressed his heartfelt condolence over the tragic demise of workers;
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of great employees, those who are missing or deceased, and their families, all are in our thoughts and prayers".
However, Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina earlier today, mentioned that they are dealing with a very hard situation, a situation non has ever seen."Homes are destroyed, cell services cut down, businesses are shut down. The town has also been cut out of electricity", Cooper said.
Furthermore, amongst the survivors were Ingram and Robert Jarvis who stated their horrific experience;
“The water was coming up and guy in a 4x4 came, picked a bunch of us up and saved our lives, or we’d have been dead, too".
At the moment, Families in need has been given food, cloths and water, for them to survive.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are also helping out in getting more food and survival kits.
The President of the United States of America, President Joe Biden also in a statement during the early hours of today, reassured the people of North Carolina that he has given strict order for help to be sent immediately.
