The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma has set up a high powered team, to investigate the veracity or otherwise of the reported cases of human organ harvesting and trafficking in the state.

There have been reported cases of residents of Owerri, the state escaping deaths at the hands of human parts traders and reliving the sordid and blood-chilling encounters.

The spokesman of the police in the state, ASP Henry Okoye disclosed in a statement in Owerri, that the team headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department., will look into this worrisome matter and ascertain the facts for possible arrest and prosecution.

The statement reads; "The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has set up a high powered investigating team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to look into this worrisome matter and ascertain the facts for possible arrest and prosecution."

There was the case of boy who boarded the ubiquitous 8-seater Bus-Imo along Bank Road, Owerri to head to Amakohia in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state only to wake up in a room in the hideout of the traffickers located in a place he later discovered to be in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state.

The boy disclosed that what saved him was the aversion of the leader of the ritual gang to use males at the period. The victim said he watched some passengers mainly females being slaughtered and dismembered into parts for sale.

There is also the case of a nurse who also escaped by God's grace and knowledge of the modus operandi of the harvesters.

According to her, she had boarded a white-coloured brand new Bus on August 29 in front of a new generation bank located at Amawire Orji in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state to head to the hospital where she works in Owerri Metropolis.

The driver of the bus, she informed insisted on her joining the three other passengers (two young men and elderly woman) to sit at the back of the bus. She said she refused sitting at the back and chose to sit in front of the vehicle. As the journey progressed, the nurse said the driver put a call across to someone and she overheard him telling the person at the other end that he had 'gotten garri and sugar' without knowing what he would use to drink the garri in this parlous Tinubu economy ".

The nurse said the comment struck her like a thunderbolt having heard that the slang is a coded language of criminals denoting that he had gotten young and elderly persons and would soon deliver his victims.

The nurse added that she immediately requested to alight from the bus but the driver bluntly refused until she began to shout and scream.

Surprisingly, all throughout the commotion she caused while still in the bus, the elderly lady who sat at the back of the bus never uttered a word suggesting she might have been laced with a stupifying substance which made her dumb and weak.

Again, the nurse further disclosed that the bus driver instead of continuing the journey made a detour on pushing her out of the vehicle.

In a viral video posted by broadcaster and activist, Theodore Chinonso Ubah popularly known as Nonsonkwa, another lady revealed that she boarded a Bus Imo along Wetheral Road Owerri and woke up at the hideout of ritualists somewhere in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state.

According to the lady, a Point-of-Sale, PoS operator, the ritualists used her ATM to withdraw all money she had in her bank account which she had intended to use for transaction on the day she was drugged and ferried to the unknown location.

She disclosed that she watched the killing of a pregnant woman by the ritualists who first shot the woman dead before decapitating her in spite of her pleading to be spared.

The PoS operator whose name was given simply as Miracle further disclosed that it was one of the organ traffickers that God used to save her life.

In addition to instructing to swap positions with other victims who were waiting for their turn to be slaughtered, she informed that the trafficker also ordered her to follow him on the pretext that she was going into the bush to ease herself since the convenience at the hideout had not been evacuated.

She said the trafficker who told her he was heading to Enugu to deliver human parts to merchants commanded her to board an Sienna bus at the hideout which dropped her along the Okigwe -Owerri Expressway where she boarded a commuter bus back to Owerri.

Interestingly, she revealed that the trafficker gave her N1000 to pay her fare back to Owerri.

Nonsonkwa called on the police officers who man the numerous checkpoints dotting the state to always check vehicles conveying dozing passengers with a view to insisting on the drivers of the vehicles waking up the passengers.
