Imo Publishers Re-Elect Anaele As Chairman

The Imo Newspaper Publishers Association (INPA) on Saturday September 14 re-elected Chief Declan Anaele as its chairman for a second term.


Chief Anaele, who is the Publisher of Eastern Lead Express Newspaper polled 18 votes to floor his challenger and Publisher of Nigerian Newsguide, Sir Chidi Emeagi who scored a paltry three votes in the election held in Owerri, the Imo State Capital.

Similarly, Mr. Ejike Ogbonna, Publisher of First Citizen Newspaper garnered 14 votes to trounce Comrade Salvator Amadi, Publisher of National Newsblast Newspaper who scored seven votes for the position of Public Relations Officer, PRO.


The lone contestants for other positions were elected unopposed.


They are Elder Chukwuemeka Ike(Vice Chairman); Leonard Ajokubi (Secretary); Tricia Iwuoha (Treasurer) and Jotham Emenyonu(Financial Secretary).


In his acceptance speech, Chief Anaele expressed gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in him which accounted for the overwhelming support and votes cast for him.


He described his first term as a period of tutelage saying he had put several programmes in place which are guaranteed to come to fruition this time to lift the association to greater heights.


Chief Anaele apologized to those he might have offended in his first term and urged them to forgive him even as he said he had forgiven those who might have offended him.


The new chairman canvassed reconciliation and unification of members to be on same page henceforth.


To this end, he announced the setting up of a reconciliation committee to be headed by the Publisher of Nigerian Horn Newspaper, Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku while the Publisher of The Big Truth Newspaper, Sir Modestus Nwankpa is to serve as Secretary .


In his remarks, Sir Chidi Emeagi who conceded defeat pledged support to the new chairman and his executive in the interest of the association. He noted that his contest for the position of the chairman made Chief Anaele 's victory not to be a walkover.


He urged the new executive to deploy the office for the good of the association.


The new chairman was sworn into office by the duo of Chief Ford Ozumba and Chief Fidel Onyeneke after the Electoral Committee chaired by Gele Agbai, Publisher of National Newsbreak Newspaper had issued him and other winners with certificates of return.


The Anaele -led executive has a three-year tenure which ends in September 2027.
