Keyamo to Flag-off Abia Airport Amidst Protest by Host Communities

The Federal Government is set to launch the construction of an airport at Nsulu, Abia State, on Tuesday next week amidst continued protest by host communities who are insisting that the land owners are yet to be consulted on the project.

The project will be launched and inaugurated by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Abia Information Commissioner, Prince Okey Kanu, announced this during a press briefing after the weekly Executive Council meeting in Umuahia. He stated that the project is a joint effort between the Federal and Abia State Governments.

Kanu explained that while the Federal Government initially planned to build an airstrip, Governor Alex Otti pushed for it to be upgraded to a full airport.

"The state will contribute by building standard runways to accommodate large aircraft", Kanu stated.

He highlighted that the completed airport would greatly boost Abia's socio-economic growth and tourism potential.

Recall, this project has been a source of considerable controversy since it was first proposed during the previous administration under

immediate past Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu.
