NDE Holds Job Orientation for 93,731 Participants in Abia

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), through its Renewed Hope Employment Initiative and in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, has organized an orientation and flag-off ceremony for 93,731 job participants across Abia State.

The event, held on Friday at the Evermore Event Centre, Olokoro Road, Isi-Court, Umuahia, is part of the Federal Government’s continued efforts to combat unemployment and provide Nigerians with valuable employment opportunities.

In her keynote address, Mrs. Tessy Wachuku, the Abia State Coordinator, who spoke on behalf of the NDE Director-General, Silas Agara, outlined the goals of the initiative. She explained that the orientation marks the first step in fulfilling the President’s directives. “The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative is our modest short-term effort to tackle unemployment in Nigeria,” Agara stated.

He also shared that the initiative seeks to engage 93,731 unskilled and unemployed individuals across the country, with at least 10 beneficiaries from each of the 8,809 electoral wards.

He further emphasized that the initiative is inclusive, offering opportunities to school leavers, dropouts, women, graduates, retirees, and individuals with special needs. Beneficiaries will undergo training in 30 different skill areas under NDE’s four main programs, Vocational Skills Development, Small Scale Enterprises, Rural Employment Promotion, and Special Public Works.

Highlighting the significance of technology, the DG pointed out that 40,000 participants will be trained in ICT and digital skills, a strategic move by the NDE to equip young Nigerians with skills that will make them globally competitive. He also praised the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for their support in providing starter packs for the beneficiaries.

Mrs. Wachuku, the Abia State Coordinator, thanked the Federal Government for transforming the NDE into a digitized system.

She clarified that the initiative is being carried out simultaneously across all 36 states, adding, “As long as your name was registered on the portal, you are part of the program.”

However, she noted that applicants who are underage or outside the age range of 18-35 years were excluded.

Dr. Judge Chidozie, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, delivered a goodwill message titled “Thinking Outside the Box for a Productive Life”, on behalf of Pastor Caleb, the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

He urged participants to approach the program with seriousness and emphasized, “The state is fully prepared to collaborate and offer the necessary support once you complete the training.”

The South East Director of NDE, Godwin Ogbonna, encouraged participants to fully embrace the opportunity and make the most of the training.

Similarly, Mrs. Abiakam Gloria highlighted the value of practical skills, remarking, “Certificates are meaningless if they can’t help you provide for yourself.”

Participants expressed their appreciation to both the government and NDE for the opportunity, vowing to maximize the benefits of the training. One beneficiary shared, “This initiative has given us renewed hope. We are determined to work hard and succeed.”
