Numupere II of Izon-Ebe, Owigiri Highlife maestro King Pereama Freetown (JP), has reflected on the significant challenges faced by the Izon Music industry in 2024 while expressing optimism for a brighter and more prosperous 2025.
Speaking from his palace in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, King Pereama highlighted the economic difficulties that impacted the music industry and the Ijaw people at large.
He noted that logistical hurdles, such as the transportation of performers and musical equipment, coupled with the nation’s harsh economic realities, created barriers for musicians and their audiences. He also lamented the loss of lives among fans and industry members due to health challenges.
Despite these adversities, King Pereama celebrated the resilience of the Izon Music community, emphasizing the dedication and sacrifices of band leaders, musicians, and fans.
He commended their unwavering support for keeping the spirit of Izon music alive throughout the year.
“The past year was undoubtedly challenging, but the bond between musicians and fans has remained unshaken. This resilience gives me hope for a better future for Izon music and our community,” he stated.
King Pereama expressed deep gratitude to God for preserving lives amid the struggles. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of leaders across the Ijaw nation, including governors, lawmakers, local government authorities, business leaders, and community heads, for their contributions to sustaining the industry.
The Owigiri Highlife icon stressed the need for unity and collective effort in achieving the aspirations of the Ijaw people. He called on all stakeholders to continue their support for the Izon Music industry as it works to improve its services, foster stronger community ties, and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Ijaw nation.
“As we step into 2025, let us renew our commitment to unity, faith, and hope. Together, we can overcome challenges and build a brighter future for our people,” he said.
King Pereama also during his address wished the Ijaw nation, Nigeria, and the global community a peaceful, prosperous, and memorable New Year. He reaffirmed his dedication to using music as a tool to promote Izon culture and unity among the Ijaw people.
