Miss South Africa finalist turned Miss Universe Nigeria winner, Chidimma Adetshina is at the center of an alleged identity fraud investigation. South African authorities have announced plans to cancel her and her mother’s official documents.
The Department of Home Affairs stated that it found evidence suggesting that Adetshina’s mother, Anabela Rungo, used a South African identity illegally. This has led to questions about Adetshina’s own citizenship status, as her mother reportedly obtained false documents decades ago, when Adetshina was a child.
Adetshina's mother, who was born in Mozambique, is suspected of having used another person’s ID number. When she tried to register Adetshina’s birth, authorities flagged discrepancies, leading to an ongoing investigation involving South Africa’s Hawks crime unit.
Legal advisors are now examining Adetshina’s status, as her South African citizenship could be deemed invalid if her mother’s fraud allegations are confirmed. This situation has complicated Adetshina's plans to represent Nigeria in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
