The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), that recently recognized as Nigeria’s most efficient and transparent organization since 2022, has announced an elaborate programme to mark the 2024 World Anti-Corruption Day.
Scheduled for Thursday, December 5, 2024, the event will take place at the iconic Nigerian Content Tower in Bayelsa State.
This year’s theme, “Effective Whistleblowers Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption,” will shape the discussions and activities planned by the NCDMB’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACTU), led by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Abdulmalik Halilu.
The celebration emphasises the Board’s commitment to transparency, ethical governance, and civic engagement.
The programme includes a workshop featuring insightful paper presentations by representatives from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and key officials of the NCDMB.
These sessions aim to educate participants on the critical role whistleblower protection plays in combating corruption and fostering accountability in public and private sectors.
A major highlight of the event will be the grand finale of a national school debate competition, bringing together students from six federal government colleges across Nigeria's geopolitical zones and an additional representative from Bayelsa State, the event's host.
The participating schools include:
Federal Government College, Odi, Bayelsa State
Federal Government College, Okigwe, Imo State
Federal Government College, Warri, Delta State
Federal Government Girls College, Kazaure, Jigawa State
Federal Government College, Ijanikin, Lagos State
Federal Government College, Maiduguri, Borno State
Federal Government College, Rubochi, Abuja
Students, accompanied by their mentors, will engage in preliminary debates over four days in Yenagoa to determine the top two teams. The finale, set against the backdrop of the 17-story Nigerian Content Tower, is designed to inspire transparency and public ethics in Nigeria’s youth, while enhancing critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills.
The initiative reflects the NCDMB’s broader goals of fostering good governance and strengthening democracy. Organizers emphasize that instilling anti-corruption values among young Nigerians is vital for the nation’s future. Winners of the debate will receive awards, symbolizing the Board’s investment in ethical leadership and civic consciousness.
The event also seeks to reinforce anti-corruption practices among NCDMB staff, underlining the importance of leadership capacity and citizen participation in achieving responsive governance.
