The mostly used online banking firm and leading financial technology, OPay, has introduced a new feature, called Nightguard, in order to provide an extra layer of security for its customers.
This step was taken by the firm as a result of 11,472 fraud cases reported in Nigeria, in the first quarter of 2024.
Opay disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, August 25, 2024, where the firm highlighted a surge in illegal financial activities and its readiness to tackle fraud-related cases in order to protect their customer’s funds.
The firm further stated that the establishment of the new icon feature on the firm's App was a first-of-its-kind functionality in the financial industry, as it empowers users by significantly enhancing the protection of their finances.
The feature is to enable users secure their money from fraudsters and vulnerability mostly during hours of the day when customers are not on alert.
The statement read in part: “OPay Nightguard assists users in securing their accounts during hours when they are most vulnerable—while they sleep and during certain personal lifestyle periods such as late-night outings, evening social gatherings, and more’’.
According to the firm, transfers initiated within this time frame must go through facial recognition, ensuring that users can prevent unauthorized access to their accounts and funds during the night, providing hundred percent security and peace of mind to its customers.
