Otti Mourns Victims of Aba Church Stampede

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and the Catholic community following the tragic events that unfolded during the Christ the King Procession at CKC Aba on November 24, 2024.


The Governor expressed profound sadness over the tragic loss and extended his condolences to the victims’ families. He assured the public that his administration would collaborate closely with the Church to investigate the incident and implement measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future.


In a statement issued by Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the state government expressed deep sorrow upon hearing of the deaths of several Catholic faithful during the annual Eucharistic Procession at Christ the King Catholic Church in Aba. The statement conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families and the Church community.


Governor Otti expressed his profound sadness over the tragedy and sent his condolences to the families who lost loved ones, as well as to the entire Catholic Church community.


The Governor praised the quick and efficient response of both the Church leadership and the state government team in addressing the incident. He particularly acknowledged their efforts in providing timely medical assistance to the injured, emphasizing their dedication and compassion during the crisis to ensure the well-being of those affected by the tragic event.


Governor Otti assured the public that his administration would collaborate closely with the Church to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the causes of the stampede. He emphasized the importance of addressing both immediate and underlying factors to prevent such a tragic incident from occurring in the future, ensuring the safety of all during public events.


He noted the importance of learning from the tragedy to implement measures that would enhance safety and prevent future incidents during large public gatherings.


The Governor prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace and wished a swift recovery to those who were injured.


He reiterated the government’s commitment to providing ongoing support to the affected families and the Church in the wake of the tragedy.
