Outcry as Tinubu Remains in China Despite Yobe Killings

The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN) has berated President Bola Tinubu's choice to continue his visit to China amidst the horrific terrorist attack in Yobe State, which resulted in the heartbreaking loss of at least 34 innocent lives.

The group expressed strong disapproval of the President's decision to prioritize his overseas trip over addressing the tragic incident and providing support to the affected families and community."

Recall that terrorists attacked residents in Mafa village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area, leading to deaths and destructions in the community.

It was learnt that The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the gruesome attack, highlighting the escalating security concerns plaguing the region.

The group in a statement on Sunday by its coordinator, Comrade Frederick Odorige, condemned Tinubu's actions, as a proof of his administration's apparent lack of compassion and empathy for the victims and their families.

Odorige urged the government to take decisive steps towards fighting insecurity adding that one way to do this is to stop politicizing it.

The statement reads in part, "The recent mass murder and burial of our Muslim compatriots in Yobe state is yet another testimony that the insecurity in Nigeria is not yet a priority of the Tinubu administration. The courage to stay back in China after the news of the killing of 34 of us, clearly indicate that Tinubu is an uncompassionate and very insensitive leader.

"I hope that Nigerians will learn that elections should not be about voting for candidates based on religion and tribe. As if to make a mockery of the tragedy, presidential aides were busy sharing videos and pictures of Tinubu in China whenever he had a handshake.

"A president that knows his responsibility ought to have cut short his visit to China. If he could cut his visit to France and return to Abuja to swear in the Chief Justice of the federation, what stopped him from returning home to commiserate with the affected families of Yobe state and to arrest the terrorists?

"Why are peaceful protesters charged with so-called treasonable felony when terrorists are paid ransoms and hardly arrested? The present economic hardship is the result of the inability of our people to farm safely. A country where citizens pay taxes to terrorists will remain hungry and in hostage.

"It is not enough that after every attack on Nigerians, the spokesperson for the president simply expresses condolences. China will not keep silent when 34 of her citizens are killed by terrorists.

“Tinubu left China and continued his journey to the United Kingdom, feeling unconcerned about the many problems back home. As the self-appointed minister of petroleum, he is not bothered by the increased prices of fuel and the scarcity..."
