The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo, has charged the Nigerian Police Force to be neutral during the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5, in the state.
Victor Oko-Jumbo said this in Bori on Wednesday, September 18, during the commissioning of the remodeled Bori Police Station that was renovated by Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Khana Local Government Area, Marvin Yobana.
He praised the police for their efforts in sustaining peace and security in the Khana Local Government Area.
The Speaker said that maintaining neutrality would make the people regain their trust in the police.
“Let me also use this opportunity to appeal to the Nigerian Police Force come the 5th of October 2024, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission will conduct the Local Government Election in Rivers State. Please try as much as possible to be non-partisan. Continue to exhibit that exemplary and professional leadership that you have always been exhibiting so that you can further earn the trust of the people” he said
In his remark, the Chairman Caretaker Committee of Khana Local Government Area Marvin Yobana said his administration will continue to prioritize the needs and security of the people of Khana.
He said the renovation of the police station would improve security surveillance in the council.
“The Siminialayi Fubara government is simplified in the sense that it has simplified governance to the grassroots. In this government, we see the people as our people. We go for the needs and welfare of the people and that is what Siminialayi Fubara is all about. We are not those persons who think that they are lords, who think that they are above the law, who think that they are emperors. Our governor is a humble, peace-loving, and law-abiding citizen. Even if he has impunity, he does not behave as if he is above the law”
On his part, the Divisional Police Officer Bori Police Station, CSP Okanlawon Olufemi said the project was designed to protect the lives of Khana people.
He assured Khana people that the police would synergize with sister security agencies to curb crime and criminality in the area. Okanlawon Olufemi also called on the Khana people to always provide credible intelligence to the police.
