Rivers to Host International Maritime Conference in 2025

Rivers State will host an international Maritime Conference next year.

The President of the Admiralty Society of Nigeria Angus Chukwuka made this known during the inauguration of the Central Planning Committee for the International Conference on Thursday, September 19, 2024, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

President of Admiralty Society of Nigeria Angus Chukwuka said the international conference will expose the huge maritime potentials of Rivers State to the global community.

He said that the Eastern ports have all it takes to become the hub of the maritime sector in Nigeria.

Chukwuka further tasked the committee to use its wealth of expertise to organize an international conference that would be globally accepted by all stakeholders.

“I want to charge you to dedicate yourself to organizing a standard international conference. International standards become important. You may need to look at other international conferences and find out how it is done. Am sure, the members of this committee are well-traveled. You people have been carefully selected and everybody has something serious to offer. If you find yourself in this committee then know that you have been scrutinized and found worthy. And what you are supposed to do is bring out that thing in you that brought you into this committee” he said.

The Chairman of the Committee, Lawrence Oko-Jaja promised that the committee would work with relevant agencies to organize a conference of global standard that everyone would be proud of.

He said the conference will attract major players in the maritime sector.

“I pledge on behalf of our members that we will do our utmost best to ensure that the task given us by the Admiralty Society of Nigeria is actualized. And I can assure you that having participated in different conferences, seminars and perhaps most of our members, will not fail you in this regard”.

The Co-Chairman of the Committee and former Commissioner for Education Alice Lawrence-Nemi said the committee will use the conference to project Rivers State in good light.

She said that many experts in the maritime sector in the state are not getting enough recognition due to lack of exposure.

Our correspondent reports that the International Maritime Conference is expected to be held in Rivers State in May 2025.
