UCL: Bayern Sweats On Kane's Recovery For Bayern-Villa Clash

Bayern Munich has announced that the examinations on striker Harry Kane's injured ankle showed "a positive development" on Sunday morning ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash agqinst Aston Villa.

Kane, who did not have a single shot in the game against Leverkusen, was injured in a collision late in the match at the Allianz Arena and was in obvious pain before he limped off the pitch with four minutes remaining in Bayern's 1-1 home draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

The 31-year-old reportedly has a history of ankle injuries, was seen clutching at his lower leg after a collision with Leverkusen's Amine Adli.

In a statement, Bayern said Kane "suffered a painful blow to his ankle", but added "examinations by (the club's) medical department on Sunday showed a positive development.

"Kane will continue to receive intensive treatment."

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl was also not optimistic while speaking in an interview on Saturday, he said: "when Harry leaves the field it means something because he's pretty tough.

"The incident doesn't look good, but we hope he's made out of good English wood and nothing's broken."

Having taken on a great form for Bayern this season, kane has netted 10 goals in seven games in all competitions, including hitting four in Bayern's Champions League opener 9-2 win against Dinamo Zagreb.

However, Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany who spoke previously on Kane's injury said he hopes his top striker recovers in time from a knock in Saturday's 1-1 draw with

Bayer Leverkusen before their second Champions League game which is away at high-flying Aston Villa.

Speaking in an Interview, Head coach Kompany said: "I'm not a doctor, but I hope it's nothing serious. It's still early to say. Hopefully he'll be fit for Wednesday," Kompany told Sky Sports after the game.

According to reports, Kane leads the Bundesliga scoring charts and has 10 goals in all competitions this season.

Jan-Christian Dreesen, Bayern CEO was a little more hopeful, however, saying: "He took a knock, but as the doctors have said, it's probably nothing serious. We'll have to look at it again tomorrow."

Leverkusen made things quite difficult for Bayern with a wonderful defensive performance to wreck Bayern's perfect start to the season but Kompany still saw positives from Saturday's game.

"As a Bayern coach, you always want to win. But the performance was as we'd hoped. The counter-pressing was positive, we won the second balls, we created so many chances," coach Kompany said.

"Normally in such a game, you don't create many chances, but we did. It was a top game but there are still many games to go. We just have to keep going," he remarked.
