US Open Finals: Italy's Sinner Defeats America's Taylor Fritz

Italy's Jannik Sinner triumphed over American 12th seed Taylor Fritz, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, in the US Open men's final on Sunday.

This victory marks Sinner's second Grand Slam title, following his Australian Open win earlier this year.

However, Sinner's tournament started with controversy after it was disclosed that he had tested positive twice for an anabolic agent in March.

In order to avoid being banned, an independent tribunal accepted his claims that the positive tests were the result of an unintentional contamination.

US Open Tennis took to their official handle on X (formerly twitter), announcing Jannik Sinner as a "Two-Time Gram Slam Champion".

Meanwhile the top seed in an interview admitted the finals would be a tough challenge being guaranteed a face off with the American opponent Fritz Taylor.

Sinner in the interview also said: "It was a very physical match. He's so tough to beat so I'm excited to be in the final.

"I'm happy to be in that position because if you are in the final on a Sunday it means you are doing an amazing job," he said in anticipation for Sunday’s match in which he emerged top seed securing the title.

World number one, Jannik Sinner became the first Italian man to reach the US Open final by defeating an ailing Jack Draper in straight sets on Friday.

The clearly unwell Draper, is the first British man in the semi-finals since Andy Murray won the title in 2012, wilted in the closing stages, having vomited on court earlier in the match.

Sinner who unleashed 43 winners in the match where he also injured his wrist in a nasty fall, acknowledged that he was well acquainted with Draper.

"Jack and I know each other very well, we are great friends off court," he said.

However, Draper was eventually undone in the gruelling three-hour match, by 10 double faults and 43 unforced errors as well as his illness.

According to reports, Draper arrived in his first Grand Slam semi-final having only been broken three times in five rounds and not having dropped a set.

However, Sinner started eating into that streak with a break for a 4-3 lead, quickly wiped out by the Briton.

The second set appeared dramatic, as Draper vomited at the side of the court before Sinner then fell chasing a Draper shot, hurting his left wrist as he attempted to break his fall.

The Italian tennis athlete, won the point, but Draper held serve for 5-4.

Two trainers then appeared on court, tending to the two players' ailments, although Sinner required a full medical timeout.

Furthermore, the Italian raced through the tiebreak to secure a two-set lead.

Draper who looked physically spent, was reduced to walking pace at the third set, as the match slipped away from him.
